QUESTION:

Is it possible to be suicidal without having depression? I live by day to day life, and I have happy moments, but life just seems so pointless overall.

  1. You have depression.

  2. You should talk to your family doctor or a counselor (although I know it takes forever). It's better to tackle it now before it gets overwhelming... depression sucks.

  3. Read some philosophy. What you're describing is existentialism. At least you know there's lots of smart people that feel/felt the same way.

    1. +1 also there is a philosophy society on campus if you want to talk to others that have the same kinds of thoughts!

    2. Disagree, and these are dangerous opinions. Nothing taints an objective study of philosophy like depression. And existentialism != depression.

  4. You may have depression, you'd better talk to an counsellor or doctor ASAP. I had exact same feeling when I suffered from depression.

  5. I've felt this way for as long as I can remember. I've got a couple of diagnosis of major depression, but I don't like their drugs at all, so I can't commit to taking anything.

Objectively, there really is no point to life I guess. You are going to die no matter what you do and given enough time nobody will remember that you existed. In the meanwhile, you can be happy by making your brain produce happy chemicals (drugs, but not necessarily, it can be eating a good meal, having sex, learning something new etc.). There is no point in being happy, of course. You can also be sad if that is what you chose. But as you surely know, there is no point in being sad either! Everything is a lie.

  7. I sometimes feel this way too. Make your life interesting - make a habit of pushing past your comfort zone.
