QUESTION: I'm on co-op and just had my midterm evaluation with my manager. He said he is ok with my progress, but gave me only satisfactory in the review, saying while he isn't unhappy about me for anything, he isn't too impressed with me either, saying I am doing what he expects, maybe even less because I'm intern not full time.
How do I explain to him that "satisfactory" actually means "very shitty" and even "very good" means mediocre? And the fact that I'm an intern means I have to take time to learn stuff, unlike the full times that has been working here for years?
I had this issue too, except got a good. Honestly, ask him how you can improve your evaluation. Also, some employers give low mid-evals so they can motivate you to see if you will do more work post eval.
ReplyDeleteExploitative fucks
DeleteYeah some managers are fucking disgusting. In one of my previous co-op terms they would constantly threaten me with the eval - i.e shit like "work weekends unpaid or you will regret it when you get the eval." Ceca didn't give a fuck.
DeleteMaybe you should just be better at your job?
ReplyDeleteYep, pretty much all I was going to say.
DeleteYou have to do more than he expects. That's just common sense.
Explain to the manager that you're studying from an Ontario university and that grade inflation is the norm.
ReplyDeleteSuck his dick
ReplyDeletedo a better job
ReplyDeleteOP here. For everyone saying I should do a better job. I AM doing a pretty job already. Might not be good enough to get outstanding or excellent, but definitely more than satisfactory. This isn't my first co-op. This manager is just taking the description literally.
ReplyDeleteI've had the same - you've done everything I've asked perfectly therefore you "satisfied" the requirements.
DeleteNo one is saying you aren't doing a good job, just to do a better job if you want a better evaluation. People aren't going to hand you gold stars for doing the minimum amount of work forever.
