QUESTION: If I let a counsellor know I'm having self-harming thoughts, would they tell my parents? :( I'm an adult now and I just need to finally get some help on my own.
Counsellors can call 911 or send you to the hospital, but they have no right to contact your parents if you're over 18.
Even if you're in the hospital (for self-harming, alcohol poisoning, pregnancy, something sensitive, something stupid, etc) they will ask explicitly if you want to involve your parents. Can attest.
If you are an adult, I think they are not allowed to release your information to anyone else.
ReplyDeleteI know if your condition seem alarming I know the counsellor can't just let you go without doing anything.

No they cant. Unless you are posing an active threat to yourself or other people. Hope you get better :)
