Smug students with rich parents who think they will be guaranteed a cushy job because mommy and daddy threw a bunch of money at their education. Oh, precious little darlings, not in this economy. Waaaay too much competition. I hope you enjoy school because you'll be working in retail to survive for the rest of your life after.
That it's becoming too child-centric. Youth do make up a majority of the population in a university, but catering exclusively to them at the behest of an idiot provincial government is too extreme. Too many losers are in university because they're afraid of the real world. Plus having any group work is near impossible with so many arrogant kids trying to lecture while having no relevant life or work skills.
Exactly how does a person who attends university supposed to sound like? Naive? Obsequious? Pretentious? I am indeed in university for better or worse.
As for "schooling" it depends on your definition. Do I agree with this factory fill all seats with children mantra? Or the provincial government giving incentives to recent high school students only? Or having educational institutions somehow playing the part of an HR firm? No. Not interested in that type of schooling. I attend for higher learning. Not because I'm afraid of the real world and need to kill time until I grow up like so many students now.
@7b Have you ever considered that all young people are not the same and that you're being an arrogant and condescending fuck when you call them "children?" People don't just suddenly develop dreams and ambitions when they turn 40. I started university right out of high school because I have an end goal that requires a university education, and I would just be wasting time if I put off school. I'd rather have my PhD by 28 than 48. Plus, some people have a hard time transitioning from working full-time and being paid full-time wages to making part-time money and being in school. Being older doesn't make you smarter or better than anyone else, which is clear from your post.
You don't approve of my word usage? Too bad. I chose "children" as it was less wordy than "immature, self-centered snowflakes with delusions of grandeur."
You're planning on receiving a PhD? Amazing. I fail to see where that was asked, or if anyone cares. Or is it that this shit system should stay the same just because it suits you? What about others? Perhaps you should consider how diluted education will affect the value of that PhD in the near future since everyone will be given one.
Pity you need to make an intelligence shot at the end of your comment. Perhaps you should stop projecting your insecurities regarding intelligence. Some of us have, or will complete, a lot more in life than a single PhD by the time they're 28.
I hate that a lot of information and knowledge sold by universities in general can be obsolete, irrelevant, or even incorrect for some courses. I saw this a number of years ago in regards to business and technology in the region. Unfortunately the administration I spoke to just personified the old adage of "those that can't, teach."
People who act like they are not in university

ReplyDeleteI hate that for some unknown reason, I just can't seem to wake up in the morning or have the motivation to go to a morning class.
ReplyDeleteWow what a great investment of 4000 dollars for lectures you don't go to!!! Don't forget food, rent, internet, etc etc
Deleteco-op :(
ReplyDeleteCo-op is one of the very few things that makes going to this university somewhat worth while.

I hate university, but most of all I hate myself.
