QUESTION: I'm Canadian but my parents don't live in Canada, can I get OSAP?

  1. probably not because your parents didn't work in this province and pay taxes their whole lives, and have contributed nothing

    1. .....? okay 1) cool your jets. 2) How do you know this? This person's parents could have lived and worked in Ontario for many years and then moved to another country a few years ago.3) Your argument makes no sense because the way OSAP works is that essentially the less money your parents pay in taxes the HIGHER your OSAP and the more money your parents pay in taxes the LESS (if at all) you get in OSAP.

    2. @1a, 1 is kinda right. OSAP specifically asked if you or your parents lived in Ontario for the past 12 months. So even if they used to live here and contributed, if it wasn't in the past 12 months OP doesn't qualify for OSAP.

    3. thanks 1b!

      go to hell, 1a

the only people who should get osap benefits are the ppl who are FROM ontario, have worked and paid taxes so that THERE IS FUCKING MONEY FOR OSAP TO EVEN EXIST. people cant just come here from all over and expect to get all the benefits if YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE. you people are so fucking stupid it's laughable.

  2. I believe you can. Same boat here. I'm Canadian like my father, but both of my parents live in the US. I received OSAP for two years.

    1. 1. LOL Im a hardcore liberal so stfu, but you must be conservative simply because you are so STUPID and CATTY
      2. I never said osap wasn't a loan that has to be paid back, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT you dumb piece of crap. I never said it was free money. they base your osap on what your parents make and if they have lived in ontario. osap is for ONTARIO students whose parents have lived and worked and paid taxes so that we can have OSAP at all. if everyone from everywhere could borrow money from osap they would and there wouldn't be enough so go fuck yourself and research a bit before you comment

    4. @3 Yeah the loan has to be paid back, but the province gets the funding for the loans from the taxes they collect from Ontario residents. So yes, it does make sense that they restrict it to Ontario residents only because they are the ones contributing to keep this system possible. Also, it IS free money in the sense that you're able to borrow that amount without interest accruing until 6 months after you graduate.
