QUESTION: I am currently in two major programs, and if I keep both of them I will delay graduation by 2 terms. (I added 3 extra study term and removed one co-op term).
My parents are willing to support me, given that I like both programs, however they are very worried that people will look down on me for taking too long to graduate. So usually, how much will employer/grad school look down on me for this? (My marks are good, by the way)

  1. I don't think anyone will look down on you for taking 5 (or 6 for co-op) years two get two bachelor degrees. That's actually pretty impressive. Whether or not you NEED two bachelor degrees is another question which is entirely up to you to decide.

    1. Two majors and two degrees are not the same thing... OP is likely just taking extra courses stacked on their degree to get both majors added.

Also OP why would anyone know how long you took? No one writes the start date on résumés they just say the year they grsduate.

    2. OP here. I indeed have only one degree, but two (not too closely related) majors. On resume I will probably write something along the likes of 201x - 201y: Bachelor of ___ at UW
This is the format given to me by CECA, not sure if it is the best

  2. Pretty much what 1 said. Just play up that you have two, hopefully relevant, degrees. Employers don't care, as long as you have something. Grad school I have no idea personally. I wouldn't worry about an extra year of studies as there are other people, such as myself, who are older and have taken longer. I'm not worried. The main thing is you accomplish your goals. Then go from there. Good luck.

    1. OP here. I'd rather not say, because this combination is not very common and saying it might reveal my identity.

  5. Schools/employers do not care whatsoever about that at all. Infact, the fact that you will graduate with 2 majors is very impressive to them and also a great personal accomplishment. Most uni students stay back an extra year anyways. I did 5 years. A friend of mine did 6 years and landed a great job after finishing school.
