QUESTION: I just watched a documentary called "tricked" about girls who have been trafficked into sexual slavery. In one scene they talk about how most of the customers really believe the girls are enjoying it. Do you think this applies to porn as well? Where is the line between 'appreciating the female form' and misogyny/abuse?
Apologies for the white knight-tier shit post, just looking to steer my moral compass.
I don't know if anyone is trafficked into porn. It's a career just like any other. Prostitution, on the other hand, has a lot of girls who are doing it because they don't have a choice.
ReplyDeleteLol no it isn't. How many girls actually want to have sex with strangers on camera at someone else's directions? Not to mention the weirder stuff.
DeleteGirls ARE trafficked into porn; and while I don't have the numbers, I believe a very sizable percentage don't choose it freely.
There's really not much difference between the two careers; in either you're being paid to have sex for the benefit of strangers.
@1a: Get back to me when you "have the numbers". Just because you believe something isn't enough to make it true.
DeleteIf you're doing it through a legitimate agency, it is a career. The girls are under contract for their work, and can quit or raise an issue if they feel they are mistreated. In countries where prostitution is illegal, the girls get no protection from the government (or anyone else) as they're not recognized to be proper workers.
The difference is they get to make the choice. Even if having sex with a stranger on camera isn't the first thing they'd want to do, it doesn't pay badly, so perhaps that balances it out. No one necessarily wants to work at McDonald's either, but people do it to pay the bills.
Seriously? Have you ever had a cock rammed so forcefully into your throat that you puke? Of course they enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic... I really hope you're being sarcastic...
DeleteOf course it applies to porn.
ReplyDeleteSex work is never about the woman's needs or satisfaction. Ever. All sex work and porn is made for men. Even lesbian porn is made with the satisfaction of men in mind. Case in point: the target market for gay porn is men, not women.

DeleteWhen it comes to porn, I think you'll find that the girls are less likely to have been trafficked, but there are still often situations where they get a lot of pressure from their agency to do things they're not comfortable with. A lot of girls will take the job because they need the money, and will start out only agreeing to vanilla shoots, but a few weeks later, the agency ends up taking advantage of their financial position to push them into doing more hardcore stuff that they would have never agreed to initially. Of course, things get sketchier the more amateur you get, as videos filmed in some dude's basement are less likely to have any kind of contract in the first place.
ReplyDeleteSource: Had a friend in the industry who initially agreed to only vanilla scenes, was pressured by her boss until she was given an ultimatum to either do more extreme shoots, or lose her job. Fortunately, she was financially secure enough to leave, but other girls weren't so lucky.
They gave her an all-tomatoe?
Deletewhere can we watch for free?
ReplyDeleteGood question OP, "where is the line between 'appreciating the female form' and misogyny/abuse"? Any examples closer to home here on campus?
