QUESTION:
Do companies like Suncor, Imperial, or Syncrude use jobmine or do they contact you outside of jobmine for an interview?

  1. They use Jobmine. I'm a 3A Chem Eng student who has had interviews for all three previously. However if you didn't make an online profile on their websites, they will ignore your Jobmine application.

  2. I worked for Syncrude, they post on jobmine, you have to register on their website, they contact you through the phone number you give them, interview outside of jobmine, but do all the ranking and offers through jobmine. This was for the Fort McMurray jobs, so I don't know if the more local ones would do it the same.

  3. They contact you through the demons of hell, because you sold your soul for oil money.

    1. Oil money that will pay for two terms of rent/tuition. Or in my case, one term, a really nice gaming PC, and a very expensive suit.

Say what you want about oil money, but it sure is nice to have no debt.

  4. @3a Oil is tanking hard right now just like the Edmonton Oilers. Don't expect high coop wages anytime soon.

    1. The wages won't be able to change, there will be laws to protect that, just the number of positions available. Also, the amount that a co-op student makes out there is pennies compared to other jobs and expenses they have. Each tire on the trucks cost $50,000 and lasts for an average of 6,000 hours (they work 24/7) so that is about 9 tires per truck per year (each truck has 6 tires), that is $450,000 in tires per truck per year, and each co-op position makes about $50,000 a year (plus housing, but I don't know how much they spend on that). They could take 2 trucks, of the 100+ they have, out of commission to easily fund all their co-op students for a year. All that cheap labor would be worth it. When I worked there, I was doing the exact same job as someone making at least 3x what I made.
