QUESTION: I recently just got into my first relationship last week and I wanted to do something cute for Valentine's Day. What do you suggest I do for Valentine's? Also, do you think it'd be too much/forward if I bought a small gift?

Just another question on the side, what are your plans?

  1. This is why I never making anything official before big events (Vday, Christmas, Birthday etc). I don't have to get something, or if I get flowers, I seem amazing.

  2. My plans are to spend it with family because I'm home for reading week and don't have a significant other atm. Good for you though - the first big event is always fun :)
Definitely do dinner together. Have you thought about skating? There are public rinks in Uptown Waterloo and Kitchener City Hall - I believe skate rentals are 10$.
On buying a gift, I would personally hold off for now, but I'm a very unromantic person (I'm a girl, btw.) - Do what you think is right here!

  3. hold off on the gift...
and my plans?? you mean if my boyfriend isn't too busy running his company?? Haven't fucking seen him since November. Told him I wanted to spend the day with him, but we'll see if that happens. DOUBT IT. What i would do though? go shopping with him at La Senza or PINK, he can buy me stuff, and then we go back to his place and i model it for him. but that's not going to be happening because i'm super annoyed with him, so he wont get sex.

    1. Wow, withholding sex is such a healthy sign in a relationship! But seriously, if you're in the same city and you haven't seen him since November... Are you sure he's still your boyfriend?

    3. ^ Agreed. Not seeing each other for months when you're living in the same city is not a good sign...

  4. In the past, I've started Valentine's Day by making my boyfriend pink, heart-shaped breakfast waffles and a nice breakfast, and then I filled a big basket with various chocolate confections as he has a bit of a sweet tooth. I've also made him a chocolate cake. Then, for dinner, I'll make his favourite meal. He seems to enjoy those kinds of things. I've also posted silly, Photoshop things on his FB wall.

As far as gifts go, a small, very non-committal kind of item that won't make him feel guilty if he doesn't happen to buy you something is best for a first Valentine's Day if you feel the urge to give him something.

  5. Last year my boyfriend and I ate dinner out at a nice Italian restaurant and then went to our friend's graduation concert.

This year we're going to Macdonalds and spending the evening playing board games at Games on Tap. It's going to be awesome!

  6. My last S.O. got me me a CD of one of his favourite artists, which I actually quite liked because it was a small gift that told me he was interested in us getting to know each other. I was really happy it wasn't pricey or something cheesy/cliche like chocolates or flowers. We had only been dating 2 weeks at that point fyi.

So I think a small gift could be ok, but nothing overtly romantic.
