There is a rumour in
one of the social science departments at UW that a professor got a
tenure position (they were a lecturer previously) because they are
romantically linked to another tenure professor in the same department
that brings in a lot of funding. They went through the entire process of
"interviewing" new professors yet they already had a professor in mind
(the spouse had threatened to leave) Thoughts? Is this unethical?
I feel like I know who you're talking about. I really hope it isn't true, because yes that would be very unethical.
ReplyDeletewhat department? I feel I know who to....
DeletePolisci. Might be completely off base though.
Deletethis is totally the same department
DeleteOHHH SHIT. Polisci, a particular "marxist" professor who basically gets a tenure position because her bf is a bigshot. So unethical.
DeleteGood thing that tenure track isn't based on the rumour mill.
ReplyDeleteThis comment really makes no sense. There's a LOT that goes on behind the scenes that know one knows about.
Delete@2a, 2 is saying that it's a rumour, and we don't know if this person got hired bedcause he is qualified or because of his relationship with another faculty member, so don't jump to conclusions
Deletehow about you stop spreading rumours
