QUESTION: Sorry, boring question... But have any of you taken these courses before: GEOG 101 (with Amanda Hookyaas), SMF 204 (with BJ Rye) and FR 121 online (with Cynthia Tremblay)? I am kind of tight on funds for textbooks, so I was wondering if anyone who has taken these courses thinks it's possible to survive without them? I've done it before for other electives and I still did alright even when profs recommended you buy them, but I'm not sure for these particular ones.

  1. I had Amanda for fluvial geomorphology and as far as I could tell, almost all lecture material was coming straight out of the textbook, and all of the exam content was straight from the lecture slides. Assuming that's her pattern, you should be fine in GEOG101 without the textbook, not to mention it's already a very easy course.

  2. I had B.J. Rye for SMF 204 and I would recommend getting the text book. Some of her exam material is pure textbook and I honestly would not have done half as well as I did without reading the textbook. You can get it used for a decent price too.

  3. you guys rock, thanks for the advice! actually, after reading #2's comment and looking through ratemyprof I decided to drop SMF204... it being my last term, I would rather something that only requires going to class to do well in the course.
