QUESTION: Anyone ever had a root canal done on a broken teeth? I cracked open the last molar on the right side of my mouth a week ago. I've gone to the Dentist and was told I have two options: root canal or extraction. Root canals are super expensive ($2 grand) compared to the 200$ I'll spend to save the teeth. I've been reading about the pros and cons of each, but just want to know if anyone has had either done, if you're happy with your choice and not facing any problems with your teeth?

  2. Ive had a root canal on a really deep cavity and I was given the same two options. I went for a root canal because I didn't really want a tooth htaken out when I was 15. Im 21 now and its fine. I havent even put a crown on it yet. The root canal is worth it.

  3. I had this, and was going to do the root canal. But I would definitely do the root canal to save the tooth as it is worth it, especially at this age. If you get it pulled, your bite may change or shift; and you'd also be paying for a dental bill ~4x higher if you ever consider an implant.
Go to a reliable dentist for your root canal as shoddy work can also lead to an unwanted extraction

  4. Had a similar situation, just get it pulled. When you do a root canal the tooth is very brittle and likely to break. Not worth it imo. If the tooth isn't at a visible place just get it pulled. I've had no regrets so far.

    1. How have you been able to eat with an important tooth missing?

  5. if its that far back why would you even consider paying to put a tooth where no one will ever see it?? Just get it pulled.

  6. I've had three root canals, which weren't as expansive, but no caps on them afterwards because I couldn't afford them. They are now rotting down, and causing cavities near surrounding teeth. So in my opinion, I think an extraction would be better.

  8. I had a root canal when I was about 15 then had to get a crown 5 years after because my tooth cracked when I ate something hard lol. No problem since I got the crown. Get the root canal. I hate dental procedures with a passion but if you have the option to keep your tooth then do it.

  9. I had a root canal when I was in middle school and had no problems until I bit a piece of metal in my food, which caused the tooth to crack. I got a crown earlier this year and it's been great, plus blends in seamlessly with my normal teeth. I'd say save your teeth OP, it's much more difficult to eat without them!

  10. Don't get an extraction. If you do, you'll need to get a bridge (basically like mini-denture to fill in the gap), because if you leave the space open, your teeth will shift over time causing pain and other dental problems. In the end it's going to cost you no matter what you do. Bridges are as expensive as just getting a root canal.
