QUESTION: Is it okay to be in a relationship with a postdoc when you're in your undergrad, or is this frowned upon in the same way you're not supposed to date professors or your TAs?

  2. It's completely fine. do you fit into the age rule (half the postdoc's age + 7) ? If so, you probably wont be frowned at too harshly. Also are you in the earlier half of your undergrad, or latter?

    1. That half her age + 7 rule fits but I wasn't concerned about the age difference, I was more concerned about any school policies that might object to it? Before asking here I searched for something that might and even though I couldn't find anything I thought it was probably a good idea to double check someplace else.

We have already been dating for a few months but I'm starting my masters in 6 months and I just didn't want to ruin that for myself (or her postdoc and tenure track). I don't know, man. Academia is weird and I just wanted to double check.

  4. If your're asking about in on this website then you're probably not mature enough to date them. Let me guess, you're a female?

    1. You're right! I'm a girl. She's also a girl. We're already dating and I feel the implied lower maturity level you think I exhibited by asking for a second opinion on an anonymous forum really doesn't account for a thing.

  5. If you are in his/her class, then (s)he will have to tell the school about a conflict of interest, and someone else will mark your work. If (s)he doesn't claim a conflict of interest and you are found out, appropriate consequences will happen.
