QUESTION: Any advice for roommate problems? Currently in a pickle with my international student roommate. Please tell me how to teach someone to have a hygienic routine by not leaving your hair all over the tub and washing your hands after you use the bathroom and perhaps not stealing my food ... -___- HELP! How do I tell someone to clean up after themselves without offending them

  1. "Hey, I was wondering if I could talk to you about something. It's going to sound like I'm attacking you but I really don't intend to come across that way. I just think that we should be honest about little things before they snowball into more resentment, you know?..."

It's your assigned roommate, no one's expecting you to be BFFs, but you should still air any concerns you may have.

Also, I don't see what them being international has anything to do with it.

    2. @1a you don't know what you are talking about... the students that can afford to study over here are well off and know the importance of hygiene despite lacking in the mannerism department at times

  3. They steal your food because they consider it as an acceptable behaviour, so you can steal their food too, they wouldn't mind at all.

As for the hygiene, you can always spray some push-push on them from time to time.

  4. I have had similar issues with roommates, except the international students I lived with first year. They would clean any mess they made in common areas. Their rooms were messy, but that is their personal space, they can do what they want. Only time I've had people eat my food wasn't a big deal. At dinner I would go into the fridge, notice something was missing, say "Yo, did someone eat my ____" everytime one of my roommates would say "Shit, thought that was mine, I will buy you a new one on my way home tomorrow" and it was all cool.

  5. I had a roommate steal all my liquor and food once. I grabbed my baseball bat and started knocking on his door yelling for him to come out.

He didn't bother me again until we moved!
