OMG UPDATE: Question? Answer.

QUESTION: Is it really such a big deal for the girl to be taller than the guy? I usually like being taller than most girls, but when I go on a date and have to wonder if wearing heels is going to make the guy uncomfortable, it sucks. More than once I've had a guy subtly make an issue out of my height by saying something like, "wow, when you wear heels I think you're taller than me." I've had guys insist we're the same height when it's clear I'm taller, even in flats. When they say these things, it's always with a negative tone. Am I just reading too much into things or am I really screwed relationship-wise until I can find a guy over 5' 10''?
I'm 5'9", my ex is 6'1". I remember she was really into heels, too. It was never a big deal. Guess you just need to find less insecure guys?
ReplyDelete5'10 isn't that tall... Maybe you're subconsciously into short guys?
ReplyDeleteWikipedia is telling me that the average height in Canada is 5'9". That means over half of all men are shorter than her. Of those in the 5'10-6'1 range, you've got people concerned she is taller than them when she wears heels.
DeleteI don't think the issue is her subconsciously being into short guys. :P
5'10 for a woman is VERY tall. The average Canadian woman is 5'4 so OP is a whole 6 inches taller than that.
DeleteThe average Canadian male is 5'9 so that is the equivalent of a 6'3 guy, which is pretty fucking tall.
^damn so with 3 inch heels it would be like 6'6...
DeleteSimon, that isn't how averages work.
Delete^I would think that with such a large sample size and relatively little possibility of variation (how many really tall and really short people are there really), the mean and median would be very close.
DeleteI have no issue dating tall women, though ideally no taller than me.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm a weirdo who thinks about what kind of offspring a potential mate would produce. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
wait until you're fucked right by a 6'2 master race, you'll never go back
ReplyDeleteyou mean ginger, right?
DeleteI think he means PC Master Race
DeleteIf they like you back, I'd say none of this should be a problem. If they do have this sort of complex, it may be a clear sign that the person you thought would be a potential mate is actually not. There is nothing more annoying than men being insecure over secondary problems. If they have insecurities over insignificant things as such this, you can bet they have a whole list more.
ReplyDeleteTrust!

I'm 5'8 my boyfriend is 5'9 (but he claims to be 5'10 lol) I used to get insecure when I wore heels because I would be quite taller than him (no kitty heels around here). I got over it, it's so stupid to be concerned with height, be confident in yourself.
ReplyDeleteIf it's so stupid to be concerned with height, why do you wear heels?
DeleteBecause they look good?
DeleteA lot of tall guys prefer tall girls too.
ReplyDeleteYep, legs for days.
DeleteIf that's your biggest issue in a relationship, than you're golden. Once you find the right person your height won't really matter. Just my two cents. Fwiw.

ReplyDeleteAs a short guy, FUCK heels. I know I am insecure but hey, who isn't.

DeleteI'm the exact same height as my gf (5'6) and I don't care when she wears heels. However, if we didn't have so much history and such a good relationship I would probably be insecure. Guys being tall/taller than their romantic interest is just as pervasive an image as women being thin. Only difference is no amount of exercise/lifestyle changes can ever make us taller.
ReplyDeleteIt's a big deal.. I'm a 5'6" girl and my boyfriend is 6'1" and in heels I'm almost his height which makes me feel really awkward standing next to him. Then again, we're Eastern European and he's not that tall for our standards. If it doesn't bother you then go for it! However it bothers me and I couldn't go for a guy who isn't at least a few inches taller so I'm shorter than him in heels.
ReplyDeleteI agree. People who say height doesn't matter either a) have lower standards or b) truly don't care. I'm willing to bet all girls would love a taller guy though.
Deletei'm from italy and ive noticed looks are a lot more important there than in canada. people here seem to have low standards
Deleteyour boyfriend isn't 6'1
DeleteHe is but when I'm wearing heels there isn't as significant of a height difference as I'd like it which bothers me. bottom line: I like a huge height difference when dating a guy.
DeleteI'm 6'3. We should date.
ReplyDeleteat least you can change your weight and build...you can never change your height :(
