Also, let yourself grieve, stay involved in activities and connect with friends. It isn't fair to date the new guys if you are still pining for your ex. The feelings will lessen with time. Unfortunately you can't speed that up, it's shit and that's life.
It's different for every person. For some, a relationship actually helps (but be up-front about it. Don't suddenly, two months in, say "I can't do it, I'm not over him").

Lessen the amount of time thinking about him to reduce obsessing. Distract your brain with other things. I'd suggest your studies. Get absorbed in your schoolwork topics. Whenever you catch yourself thinking of him, turn your mind away to another topic. School, nudge.
