QUESTION: If the vehicle I drive only every once in a while that's not attached to my name gets a parking ticket on campus should I take it seriously or just throw the ticket out? Advice appreciated!

  1. throw it out!!

source: I have gotten at least half a dozen from UW parking services. Nothing yet has happened yet.

Ps: I heard from some people that they may tow your car if you have too many outstanding tickets so just don't rack up too much

  2. Throw it out definitely.

  3. Parking at UW isn't attached to the region or city. In other words, never pay them. But, the towing thing is a reality.

  4. roommates had about 30 tickets get linked to their quest each one summer, i think that they also both had a parking pass at some point, and even though the tickets were at one of the colleges, they got nailed

    1. I am notorious for getting parking tickets. As a result of laziness and forgetfulness I accumulated enough tickets that I've had my car towed. Wasn't worth the fee to have it released plus paying off my tickets. Ever wonder what that "Holds" tab is on the right hand side of your Quest account? Unpaid tickets, like unpaid library fines (yes I've had a ridiculous amount of those too for the same reasons as above) means UW can withhold your grades and prevent you from graduating. Just so ya know...

TL;DR pay your fines or suffer the consequences

  5. You got a ticket. Do the honest and right thing; pay the ticket.

  6. All of you are idiots. UW tickets are governed by City of Waterloo bylaws. The bylaws are unique to Waterloo where private property parking tickets are upheld by the city. Enjoy your summons!

    1. ETA: You can't just "throw them out". The city will mail you a notice to pay the fine or take it to court. Failure to do anything means an assumed guilty plea plus additional late fees.

  7. Pretty sure this is only the case if you have had your plates associated with your name at some point. I've had 3 UW parking tickets for over 2 years, never received summons or any sort of correspondence at all.
