QUESTION: How is the LGBTQIA (etc. apparently it's super hella longer than you'd think) community at uWaterloo? Just wondering because my high school was horrible in terms of that and everyone who was actually LGBTQ was closeted.
I know a few friends who have had amazing experiences here at Waterloo and have come out during their time here when they never thought they would. There are 2 clubs, one being the women's centre and the other is a LBQTA club I'm pretty sure. Please ignore the above comments & get involved :)<3 people aren't too judgemental here it's a large city. Don't worry!
Hey! The community is okay here, we have glow and womens centre as queer safe places plus rainbow mathies. There is no gay club in waterloo yet but there will be one soon (called the order). I suggest you get involved w glow early as it can get cliquey as time goes on. There is a glow event during o week, follow their fb for info.
Glow is awful - do not get involved with them - just make friends, everyone is friendly and nobody cares about your sexual orientation. Feel free to be yourself everywhere. As a gay guy who has been here for a few years, Glow embarrasses me. There are plenty of gays etc scattered throughout campus, just be friendly and yourself.
+1. Especially recently, glow has just turned into a cesspool of closed-minded thinking and mental gymnastics. The coordinator last term posted something like "Some days I just want to kill all men, and today is one of those days". Not cool.
There isn't much of one outside of glow, but you don't want to get involved with them. Despite what you might think, there's some pretty hateful people involved with them. People don't have reservations to shit talk people that aren't queer enough for their tastes.
Also, for the record, LGBTQ tends to suffice fine, or GSM (Gender & Sexual Minorities)
It sucks.
ReplyDeleteThe geese shit rainbows, if thats what you're asking.
ReplyDelete@3, Q= Queer; I would say Asexuals probably don't belong in the acronym.
ReplyDeleteQ is questioning
Delete@4 and 4a - the acronym is: LGBTTTQQIAA
ReplyDeleteyou're both right ;)
Christ.

ReplyDelete@9a Maybe you were just not pleasant to be around?
DeleteIf not pleasant meant smiling and saying hello then yes, I was extremely not pleasant.

ReplyDeleteThey seem to be gearing up to win the oppression Olympics despite all the resources that we don't have a choice in giving them.
