I'm definitely not for it. There's been times when people bought thermoses to class, and it annoys the fuck out of me once they start scrapping the metal. Not only is it rude, but its disruptive to the class and professor when all I can focus on is the sound of you trying to scratch the bottom of the metal.
Sandwiches, granola bars, etc. Basically anything you can eat cold and doesn't have a big smell, I don't mind. But if its hot and aromatic, or in a metal container, I mind.
+1, people are busy, and having classes from the morning until noon isn't fantastic. Even if they don't have classes all morning, if they're hungry, they should eat. I am fine with people eating in class, as long as they're not gross about it and leaving a mess.
Just be mindful of others really. I only really take cold foods that are easy to eat quietly (sandwiches/yogurt/soft fruit and not something like carrot sticks or steaming hot soup). I don't really get mad when people do eat something sort of smelly/loud though, because I figure they know it's annoying but they're just too hungry. It happens.
I've never had a problem with other people eating in class. Not all of us have time to eat outside of classes - some people have packed schedules that don't allow them to have a lunch/dinner break.
If you are conscious of the environment then it is ok. The thing I hate the most is when people have a bag of ships or those noisy tim hortons bags and they eat out of that.
Every damn time they eat a bite it is so loud because they ruffle the bag, it is the easiest thing in the world to get a tissue or a container and just put the food on that so you don't have to deal with the noisy bag every time.
Step 1: Have food Step 2: Put food on tissues/container Step 3: Eat food
So...if someone has a bag of chips and no container, you expect them to pour out the chips onto a wad of tissues and eat from there? And those tim hortons bags aren't even that bad. Having to get a bunch of tissues to replace a slightly crinkly bag is kind of inconvenient and really wasteful.
In general though, I would try to stay away from eating chips in lecture since I agree that they are pretty noisy.

DeleteThis term I had class straight through from 10am to 2:30.
ReplyDeleteI HAD to eat during class, but I made sure to choose foods that wouldnt bother anyone
Just don't make noise, and if it has a strong smell, eat it quick, and seal the container as fas as possible. Don't leave it out for the entire class

ReplyDeleteAs long as the food doesn't really stink and they're not making a ridiculous amount of noise, I'm fine with it.

Yet hardly anyone does this, super annoying.
