QUESTION: Is it possible to get a paid summer position as a research assistant after completing your first year of studies in sciences?

  1. Yup, I know a bunch of people who have done this. Just email profs, it's certainly not out of the ordinary.

    3. Yes it is possible. It is also possible, though less likely, that the prof has funding to pay for you even if you don't get the USRA.

      BTW, a good way to get a prof to like you is to chat with them about their research. It doesn't have to be a prof who teaches you, but it does have to be one whose research interests you.
