QUESTION: I'm going to be living in Toronto next term for coop and I have no idea where to find a place to live. I looked on Craigstlist and Kijiji, but everything seems to be in the mid-high $1000's and $2000's. Any advice on where I can find a more affordable place to live?

  1. There are places in Toronto that are 500-800 with everything included, you just need to look harder for them. (Granted, the $500 ones are probably realllyyy shitty)

I found a decent place downtown for 600/month everything included.

If you can't find anything, look for a place in Scarborough like 1 said or North York. The prices there are much more similar to Waterloo prices but you'll have to buy a Go pass or whatever.

  2. If you speak chinese/portuguese/italian try looking in non-english newspapers for places in Chinatown/Little Portugal/Little Italy. My friend rented a room from a Chinese family near Chinatown, and it was super awesome and close to Kensington and Dundas/Spadina, and he only paid like $550 per month.

  3. UW Off-campus housing has some listings in the GTA, but not as much. Depends on where you'll be working.

  4. I"m not sure what type of place you're looking for but those prices sound like luxury condos. There are plenty of places on Kijiji well below that range but it also has to do with how far you're willing to commute as places farther away are obviously cheaper. Source: just graduated and found a place downtown for studies at Ryerson.

    1. Really? You think $1000 a month in Toronto is a luxury condo?

    2. A room in a luxury condo not a condo

    3. ^ Confirmed. You can get a room in a nice condo (shared with others) in Toronto for 1000-2000.

  5. Maybe try the UofT off-campus housing website, or those of other schools.

    1. The UofT off campus housing website requires you to sign in. (i.e., you have to be a student there)
