QUESTION: I'm in graduate school at UW and don't really have a lot of friends (depressing) . I have class friends but have had a hard time meeting people outside my program. Any suggestions?

  1. Why do you need to meet people outside your program? If you're friends with the people in your class, just make plans with them. Problem solved.

  4. It's really hard to make good friends in grad school. I was in the same situation at Waterloo, and always tried to convince the few people I was friendly with in class to trivia nights and board game nights. It's still tough. I would suggest just going out of your program a bit and meeting people at events and such. I ended up with a few good friends in the end, so it was okay, but for the most part I just learned to be okay with alone time (sounds depressing but I actually started to enjoy it).

  5. I'm in undergrad and most of my good friends are in my program. Nothing wrong with that!
