QUESTION: What are some super easy courses that aren't related to math that I can take at Waterloo that require minimum effort? I'm going into my first year.

  1. We call that a bird course. Luckily UW is #1 in bird courses for ontario. This should help you: http://birdcourses.com/

    1. I highly recommend CHEM 266. It was very easy and required minimal effort.

    2. BIOL 331 is a great, easy-going course. can even skip the lectures, just browse the power points before MT/exams, easy 80

    3. lol women's studies and intro to women's studies

    4. ^don't take that as a man unless you're actually into that liberal stuff. If you have to write any papers make sure you over-analyse to the point of ridiculousness

  2. REC 100, SPAN 101, ENGL 119

    1. i wouldn't say 102 is a course that requires minimal effort. also 100 is for geo majors only

    1. All the math courses math majors aren't allowed to take are basically a joke if you're still good at math. in upper years the math courses the majors aren't allowed to take are the easiest... eg actsc 221, cs 330

    2. Fuck i am not allowed to take those, but i have heard they are guaranteed 90s... what about the ones an actsci/FARM student should take?

    3. There's definitely no guaranteed 90s in university... I'm guessing you're from high school? Even the easiest of courses like HRM 200/econ 220/engl119 still only have like 15% of the class get a 90+

I was in actsc for a few terms before switching to math/bus: you're easiest courses are going to be your accounting, economics and communication courses. You can also pick really birdy courses like HRM or econ for electives (you get a lot)

Not really sure for FARM, but I imagine it's similar

    4. Actually I am 3A... and i disagree, there are a few guaranteed 90s.. actsc 221 happens to be 1 of them but i haven't had the fortune of being able to take that. AFM 101 is 1 such course as well, MSCI 211 too

    5. 7c here. You can't make that broad of a claim over the internet without some sort of credibility. Considering I know nothing about you, the safest guess for a grade in an arbitrary class is the mean of the class. And I certainly doubt there are any courses with a mean of 90.

If you're claiming that you frequently get 90+, then yes, there are courses in which you have a very high likelyhood of getting 90 in.

    6. Ok I think I may have over exagerrated, but yes there are a few courses with MEDIAN of 80, which is damn high for a math course

  7. basically any first year arts course is straight forward, with the easiest being courses like econ 101/102, engl 109/119, hist110, clas 104 and a variety of others. Sci 206 or whatever it is (physics of how things work) is super easy so is econ 220, hrm200 etc..

    1. Don't take econ 101 online. There are a lot more assignments/discussion activities if you take it online. I thought it was going to be a bird course but it ended up taking me a lot more time that I thought it would.

  8. MATH 145. Don't let the course code fool you, I didn't use a calculator once in the entire course. Easy peasy!

    2. I have to agree. MATH145 was the fun-est course I've ever taken.
Also you probably don't need a calculator for any of the MATH, PMATH or CO courses but that doesn't mean it's easy.
You need calculators PHYS121,122 but they are easy as Grade 7 science.

  9. ENGL 101B. Intro to Rhetoric in Pop Culture. Fun course, mostly discussions and analysis in class of different media (movies, advertisements, pictures, TV, computer games, scientific studies, etc). One assignment, one midterm, and one final. We once watched an episode of South Park in class and analysed it. Lots of fun.

If you want the serious version of that course, PHIL 145, Critical Thinking. More technical with the jargon, but just as interesting.

  10. If you need bird courses in first year...you're not going to have a good time.

  11. ENGL 109, GER 101, SPAN 101, PSYCH 101, FR 151

  12. What are the easiest bird courses that do not require memorization. I am good at math (but not in math).
