QUESTION: How often do employers send out "challenges" before considering you for an interview? (this is my first time applying through JobMine as a software dev)
It's a common practice. Sometimes it's not worth doing though. Hulu still asks candidates to spend 8 hours on their programming challenge.. as if we have the time or energy for that. But if it's your first time Jobmining, you probably shouldn't pass off the chance.
I'm not sure if you can call it "common"... All the bigger companies that everyone wants to go to don't give some bullshit software challenge before giving you a preliminary interview. I've only seen this happen with medium-sized companies, and few at that.
