QUESTION:
For those that have taken SPCOM 223 (Public Speaking), was it a very heavy workload? What is the class structured like?

  1. birdiest of all bird courses.
But can be useful at same time.

  2. There's a fair amount of workload if you want to do well. It's spread throughout the term. It's a great course though and I highly recommend it.

  3. It's filled with hippies and *gag* women's studies degrees.
Steer clear it's useless unless you just want marks.

  4. Work is spread across the work term (three prepared speeches, one impromptu, two written evaluations [for two prepared speeches]). No exams, it's essentially a "workshop" course. You get to meet people from different faculties. You learn some useful skills. The class is big on attendee participation.

    I totally recommend it.

  5. I took it last fall. Wrote speeches the night before, besides that there is no real homework at all. Just be comfortable with offering an opinion and making valid points and you can't go wrong. Ended with an 80%.

  6. Very little time commitment (well in my case there was as I mostly winged my speeches). Success depends on your proficiency with speaking to a group of people...

  7. If you have Jo harvie, never take the course.
