no one respects 3 year its like getting a certificate. For example Gen. science is a waste and then you have to pursue another degree. Its kinda like an associates degree in america incomplete. If you want 3 years mate hop across the pond.
More seriously, the ones I've seen at UW have no specific major, which can be a hindrance if you need a major (rather than just any ol' degree, say for the med school example above)
If you have the work experience already I would check with the HR for the company you plan to work for. You may not need to waste the money for the fourth year.
At least in arts you can have 4 year honours or general, or 3 year general. The difference really being level of specialization. Having a 3 year, rather than a 4 year can write out a lot of options (certain types of grad schools), but if you're looking for a job within a company, there's probably a lot more flexibility there.
The difference depends on your programme, but it doesn't really matter that much. A person with a three year degree, experience, and other credentials is going to be worth more than someone with an honours and nothing else. Full disclosure, I just finished a three-year degree because I figured my employment opportunities were equally bad with the four-year, plus I hated the university experience as a whole. I am now going to do a two-year college programme in a related field that will offer much better chances of employment.
I have a 3 year degree. It hasn't made any kind of difference because I never planned on going to grad school. I was originally doing a 4 year degree, but wound up hating my program so much that I desperately needed to get out of the University - graduating early was a way to do that. I spent less money in the long run . When you put "Blah Blah, BA" on your CV, nobody knows or gives a flying fuck that you did a 3 year rather than a 4.
In the science field they will most definitely give a fuck. If you're general, they'll fuck your application all the way to the bottom of the fucking pile.
My calculations indicate a difference of approximately 1 year
ReplyDeleteFewer courses taken, lower average needed to stay in... What program/major?
ReplyDeletethe difference between certain unemployment and potential unemployment

ReplyDelete1 year ± 365.25 days.
ReplyDeleteI'd say a big reason people do 3 year degrees is if they get into a post grad without needing to complete the 4th..ie. med school, law school..etc
ReplyDeleteYour name appears on the convocation program in its own section, so people can laugh at you.
