Go to class, start assignments earlier rather than later and make sure you're following along with the material. More of a work smarter not harder type of thing.
Be strategic. Take easy electives, work hard and find a way of studying that best works for you, and take advantage of people. I find I can easily get answers out of TAs and "friends."
With good genes and a good work ethic. My dad is a MD+PhD ophthalmologist (Dartmouth grad) and my mom is a managing partner at a 7-sister firm (UofT grad). Since my very first day in university, I study, work, or volunteer from 8:00am to 11:00pm every single day, 24/7.
I have a 90.8% average (biomed sci/psych minor) and I'm applying to med and optometry schools next year.
Grades/volunteer/MCAT get you an interview. Quick thinking and personality are everything past that. Hope 5 and 5.a are good with social skills (hint: calling out someone's average and saying you're better than them is piss poor social skills).
Go to your prof's office hours! If you are not getting near 100 in every assignment you should definitely go to office hours and make sure how did you loss those marks.
Hard work and good time-management.
ReplyDeleteMost obvious advice ever though, I guess.

Delete@ 4a, i'm not #4, but i know some people that do exactly this
Deleteat the end of the day, nobody will care that you got your answers by social skills rather than "smarts"
+1 Take advantage of the nerds around here! May as well make them useful.

93 average in biomed sci/ stats minor. I'm just a little better than you, but most of what you said I agree with
Delete5.a., I think you want to find out my MCAT and OAT scores before making that claim in your second sentence. ;)
DeleteI haven't taken them yet, but I can't wait.

DeleteWow and I sometimes wonder why biomed has a bad name...
DeleteDo you do your work to do your best or to tell the rest of us about it?

ReplyDeleteOffice hours obviously. Just whisper "Help me professor." Wink, close the door and bend over. Instant 95. Jokes.
