I was in engineering and didn't get my first coop. Worked retail that summer and hated every minute of it. I honestly felt like a failure.
Then 2A rolled around, I got smarter about applying to a wide variety of jobs (was very, very selective in 1B - never do that for any first years reading this!). I had 11 or 12 interviews in 2A. Got an amazing coop job, and that job ultimately led to the full time job I'm at now.
If you don't get a job just be prepared for the question "why didn't you find a coop" when you've got interviews in 2A. I was upfront about it and admitted to my past job search mistakes. Employers seemed to like that.
But, you've got lots of time to still find a job this summer! A lot of first years don't get jobs until the end of the semester, so keep at it, even searching into the coop term and hopefully something comes up. Good luck with the job hunt!
It's a lot easier to get a job during winter or fall term! just keep trying.
ReplyDeleteI know someone who didn't get one first term and got a great one second term.
ReplyDeleteThey may be an exception, but don't kill yourself over it.
