They are being PAID to hold office hours. Damn they are getting paid to do nothing then. Go complain to the department chair or dean, or whoever it is!!
is it possible you have just been unlucky? Maybe you pop by when they go down to grab a coffee or go to the bathroom? Do you wait for them for long? Why not send them a message telling them that you went to their office hours but must have missed them and ask them if you can come by at another time... this does 2 things. First, it tells them that they should have been there (without you actually saying it) and second it gets you meeting time...
Your best bet is to email and make an appointment with them. You can guarantee that they'll be there and prepare to help you with whatever you need. No one really wants to sit in an office chair for a full three hours a day. Obviously they might be busy helping with other... things.
Definitely!! First, email them to express your concern that you've missed them during scheduled office hours. Make an appointment. If your prof is not co-operative on this, speak to the chair of your undergraduate program. It is part of the job that they are being paid for to hold these office hours and you absolutely do have recourse if they are not doing it.
Not really
ReplyDeletemaybe write them a bad review at the end of the course, but i doubt that will change them
Flash him / her. Then they will be there during office hours.
ReplyDeleteI would try talking to their faculty's undergraduate office or their department's head/chair.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to avoid conflicts sometimes but if it's a regular thing, then they're definitely not doing their job.
Dunno if it will help though.

ReplyDeleteIf you feel that this has substantially affected your studying, consider submitting a grievance:

(Go to the Grievances heading, 4. iii?)
Just email them and tell them your coming.. maybe lack of students = lack of showing up?
