QUESTION: I need help everyone. So I recently got back my midterm mark for a course and sure enough I failed. I studied for this test, but I guess I didn't prepare the right way. Now the problem is that this midterm was worth 30% and now it will be impossible for me to even get a final mark that I will be satisfied with. The final mark will hurt my overall average and this matters as I plan on going to a grad school (pharm/med).
I am contemplating on withdrawing from the course. I know it's past the deadline where I can WD and get my tuition back but to me, marks are worth more than 500 or 600 dollars.
But is it a wise move to get a WD? Does a WD look bad on a transcript? Will grad schools look down upon it when I am trying to apply in the future?
Please help :(
I don't think a WD is a big deal. I had one and got into grad school.
ReplyDeleteTalk to an adviser.
drink however much vodka it takes to sooth your wounds
ReplyDeletealso, if you studied and still failed, clearly this sort of course isn't for you
pharm/med is "professional" school, not grad school
ReplyDeletenumber 3 is correct: professional school is not grad school.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, WD don't matter for grad school.
I have 3 or 4 WDs and have offers from grad schools
i have WDs and a WF. I also have offers from grad schools.
ReplyDeleteProfessional schools ask you about WDs during interviews. And if you have many they get suspicious. But if you have 1-2, over your 4 years, its alright, but they still ask about it. Also, what course was this for?
ReplyDeleteOP just suck it the fuck up and get the course over with. It may not end as badly as you think it will ...
ReplyDeleteOP here, thanks for the replies. This was a math course. And yes I really meant to say professional schools not grad. Another problem is the fact that If I WD it will not be counted as a full course load term. I'm not sure how this will look as many of these schools require 3-4 years of full course semesters.
ReplyDeleteDropping to part time studies is kinda bad for professional schools. Plus if you are on OSAP it affects that too.
Deleteyou only have 3 courses this term?
ReplyDeleteA full course semester is >=3
OP is a pretentious mark whore. See if you've done something creative and unique with your life and I bet you haven't. Why? Because you're just another loser following their parents' dreams and have no independence whatsoever. Take lemons that life gives you and make lemonade. Stop thinking marks are everything.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck?
DeleteIt's true. No one gives a shit about marks really in university. Especially if it's just ONE bad mark in a sea of good ones.
DeleteIf you get the degree, that's enough proof of your competence for employers and most won't look into your marks at all.
You are all idiots. Professional schools look at marks PRIMARILY. GPA is everything.
Delete10 b - to get into another school after graduation, marks do matter.
DeleteWhile it's not the ONLY important factor as 10 c suggested, marks are important. If you are very well rounded and personable, it can make up for a bump or two in grades.
^Unless you plan on going to grad school.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried talking to your prof? They might give options to count your second midterm (if you have one) + exam, or exam only. If you go to them soon enough and talk to them, most profs are pretty accommodating.
ReplyDeleteI have not talked to my prof yet, but under the course outline there is only one marking scheme: 30% midterm, 60% final and the remainder is assignments. I could try and talk with the prof, but it is highly unlikely she will make an alternate marking scheme just do accommodate me. Have you heard of anyone in a similar situation who did this?
