QUESTION: Does anyone know which building is the prettiest on campus? My parents are visiting me and want me to show them around, and I want to show them the most impressive buildings first.
Distract them with the dinosaurs. All kidding aside, show them one of the pretty buildings, then show them where you go (even if it's MC)- your parents want to know about you and how you're doing. Make it real, and share all your favourite stories with them.
I've always been impressed with E5, EIT and Hagey Hall (new wing)... Haven't been in the nano building much, but from what I have seen, it hasn't been really impressive. EV3 also hasn't been too special... but it's not bad.
Now for some reason, I like DC. I think it's just a building that accurately shows the transition in innovation of the world at the time it was built :p Just my perception haha.
I completely agree with @1a. Take them to a classroom of yours and show them where you sit in it. They'll remember that the most vividly later and tell their friends.
You hit the nail on the head, your parents are visiting _you_ and want _you_ to show them around.
I suggest something from your faculty, maybe even along a path you walk from one class to another, or where you hang out in between.
Hahaha, when I was checking out the campus before I enrolled, one of the buildings I explored with my mom was PAS. It was certainly memorable for everyone.
Go to any other university's campus and then honestly repeat that statement. All of our buildings look like they were designed by someone who was only familiar with 90° angles.
Just like what others have suggested, I would show EIT and E5. In addition, I would show them DC because of its "high-tech" look. I would also show them DP!
It's not pretty, but it is awesome. It's a warehouse so it's fun to explore and it has the student art gallery. It's fairly easy to navigate and has artwork everywhere. Plus us art kids are generally pretty weird and we don't get a lot of company, so would appreciate you coming around.
EIT is pretty nice :)

None of the buildings on campus are particularly impressive. One of the downsides of having a young campus.

DeleteShow them the beautiful and elegantly designed concrete fortress known as MC. That is some beautiful 1970s architecture.

DeleteThe QNC is kind of nice
ReplyDeleteI agree. In order of prettiness, I'd say: QNC, EIT (because of the dinosaur/rock museum), EV3. None of the other buildings are pretty at all.
DeleteAgreeing with others on EIT. Even the lecture floor downstairs is really nice.
ReplyDeleteThe new wing of Hagey Hall is pretty cool too.

whichever one you're in, babe.

PAS!

DeleteOur campus is extremely hideous. Even SJ, which is from 1865 and thus might have some nice old buildings.
ReplyDeleteHow is it hideous? There's lots of super cool modern buildings, as well as loads of green space. Quit being so negative and open your eyes.

DeleteI recommend you ensure they pass by Laurier first. That way Waterloo will look much better in comparison.
ReplyDeleteE5 and M3 are also nice, which haven't been mentioned. Definitely take them through the rock museum in EIT, if they're in to that.
ReplyDeleteDC 1st floor washroom.
ReplyDeleteThat smell will leave a lasting impression, especially if visiting at the end of the day.

This is really rude to all the other buildings.
ReplyDeleteECH.

Then go to EIT, for the dinosaurs.
Where is ECH? Never heard of it
DeleteShow them PHILS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I did that, my parents would end up taking me home with them lol. Although its quite the Waterloo masterpiece.
DeleteDrive to London and show them Western instead. Waterloo does not look pretty.
