QUESTION: I'm going to have a phone interview for co-op, so is there anything special I should watch out for? Also, is their phone like a normal phone or it's the kind of phone with video (ie Do I have to wear suit)? What can I do if I can't hear them clearly?

  1. Try to use a landline to avoid bad cell signals. Remember to speak clearly, since your voice will be less clear on the other end. You don't have to wear a suit, but some people act more professionally when they're wearing one, so it's up to you. If you can't hear them, try adjusting the volume on your phone (you don't want to be constantly asking them to repeat themselves). Best of luck.

  2. The phone you'll be using will be a phone in a room at Tatham Centre. No video unless they state it's a skype interview. For my phone interview I wore short shorts and a skimpy top (it was summer) because it made me feel chill and calmed me the fuck down. I got the job. If you can't hear them clearly ask them to repeat and say that the line is bad. They won't think you're unprofessional.
    Good luck!

  3. Also don't worry if there seems to be a lag between you saying something and them saying something .. They could just be writing something down. It's hard to tell without facial expressions/nodding/smiles though. Don't feel the need to repeat yourself unless they ask. Feel free to have your laptop on you just in case you wanna google stuff :) Good luck!

    1. Expanding on that, it's the same thing on their end. If they're talking a lot, remember to occasionally say something (ok, yes, right) to let them know that you're still paying attention. They can't see smiling and nodding on their end!

  4. Take advantage of the fact that they can't see you. Have your resume, the job description, info on the company, questions you want to ask, answers for questions you expect to be asked, etc in front of you. If you're in front of a computer, have Google open in case they ask you something you don't know immediately but that the internet could answer quickly.

  5. Assuming it is in TC, be sure to sign-in at the desk upstairs (not the main desks on the main floor). I made the mistake of going directly to the assigned room... don't do what I did.
