QUESTION: How useful and beneficial is the waterloo spc card? Is it worth getting? or is it just another card in your wallet?

  1. It depends on where you tend to shop. Look up what places you can get deals/discounts at with the card. I have the mastercard + SPC all in one card, and I got it for free. It's been worth it.

  2. I have the MasterCard+SPC for free as well. I rarely use it for the SPC discount. It wouldn't be worth it for me if I had to pay for it, but since it was free I guess I've used it for the SPC part once or twice.

  3. I don't know what you mean by "Waterloo SPC" but I bought an SPC card for under ten dollars and it pays off. If you look on their website you can see which deals different stores offer. It's possible to save even more than ten dollars on a single trip to the mall!

  4. The SPC card isn't Waterloo-specific. Anyway. I still paid for the card but it still ended up being worth it since my (savings over the year) > (expense for the card). It depends though. If you never shop at the listed SPC stores though (or know WHAT discounts are applicable to each store), then it may not be worth it? But, the card is only about $10.

Most discounts are %10 off at a particular store. So one way to approach this is to think "Am I going to spend >$100 in a year at any of these stores?"

  5. OP probably means the free BMO credit card that's uwaterloo branded that includes spc benefits.

  6. It's... a credit card?

SPC comes in handy for buying clothes and not much else. Building credit on an easily approved card is worth lots in the long run. Juat don't spend irresponsibly, and if you're at risk of it, set a low credit limit.
