QUESTION: Ok so why did I see a plant operations guy cutting bike locks off of bikes, outside of EIT, and then loading them into the back of a UW truck?

So does this mean they have time to steal bikes but not enough time to salt/shovel the walk ways that I always slip on?

What does this say about our university?

  1. Those bikes have been tagged telling the owner that after x amount of time the lock will be cut and the bike removed so those bikes are mostly abandoned beaters that they're clearing out. The walkways are also mostly fine except for a few icy patches here and there.

    2. Clearing abandoned bikes is fine, walkways aren't. Walking up the steps of SCH last week, I noticed somebody had only bothered to shovel one side. Foot traffic was obviously congested and I was left wondering if the person who was supposed to do it honestly believed his boss wouldn't notice.

  5. Like one said, these bikes have been tagged and are frequently abandoned. After a certain period of time if they remain unclaimed, they will be donated to the bike centre, fixed by its volunteers, and auctioned off at the beginning of spring/fall terms.
