QUESTION: Getting my first brazilian soon... Ladies (or gentleman, for that
matter): Where should I go and what should I expect? Does anyplace offer
student discounts? What is the procedure generally like? It is awkward?
What about the pain? Are there any not-so-obvious faux-pas? Tkanks!!
Personally, it wasn't awkward and the pain was no where near as bad I was expecting. It took much less time then I was expecting too. I went to Laurie (Bare Essentials) and she was great! I think your first time gets a discount if you like the fb page. The price is really reasonable otherwise too ($25, I believe).
ReplyDeleteIf you want, take a painkiller an hour before and don't go right after a shower (or you'll get more hairs breaking off instead of getting waxed).
+1 Laurie is the best! She has a lot of UW/WLU students as clients, and it's the cheapest brazilian in Waterloo.
Delete+1 Yes, Laurie is the best, and her brazillians are just $25. Quick and painless (as a wax can be .. let's be reasonable haha). Catch her while you can, she books up pretty quickly.
DeleteIt hurts, it's awkward but afterwards it will be so worth it! My first brazilian felt kind of itchy and irritating, but after my 2nd one I was sold.
ReplyDeleteSeriously go to Bare Essentials though. I've been to a number of places before but Laurie is the only one who makes it as painless as possible. Plus she's incredibly easy to talk to. It's always awkward the first time, and slightly more painful, but after that, especially if you go regularly, it gets much easier. Just remember that so many people go regularly that it can't be THAT bad. Also if it is painful, Laurie sells some cream that helps with the pain as some people are more sensitive than others.
ReplyDeleteNot so obvious faux-pas: wear clean socks. And totally come see me, I'll take care of you. And like my fb page, i'll give you $5 off if you're spending over $20. (this is laurie :P)
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I had an appointment booked to go see you last year and then cancelled because I chickened out.
DeleteThe one thing I'm unsure of is how to prepare myself beforehand? If my hair is too long should I try to trim it myself or will you do that?
don't trim!! if you trim, it may be too short and then i can't help you. it's not that bad. first time's the worst, and then it gets easier. second time is WAY better.
DeleteYou know, I actually find it's not that awkward. I mean the waxer isn't going to comment on what your labias look like and they see dozens of them a day. Good waxers make you feel like your vagina is boring and mundane. And go to Bare Essentials :)
ReplyDeleteI'm getting my first one too! In a week. I'm so nervous.
ReplyDeleteWhat length should the hairs be?
ReplyDelete1/4 inch, or 2-3 weeks from your last shave.
DeleteI've been to both Bare Essentials (Laurie) and Lilita Esthetics (Maryam) and both are great. Maryam is closer to The Boardwalk and farther away from school, if that's an issue. However, I would recommend Maryam if you're on the shy side. She has you wear a disposable thong during the whole process so you don't feel too naked.
ReplyDeletemeh. fair enough. but paper thong or not, i'm gonna see it anyways. and i see so many on a daily, your individual vagina (as harsh as this sounds), isn't special.
Deletelol this was clearly a marketing gimmick from these ladies
ReplyDeletetotally not. i have loyal clients that always tell me when i get mentioned on here.
DeleteSugaring is much better than waxing, in my opinion. Less painful, doesn't pull off as much skin, smells really nice etc. I recommend the Sugar Cube, which is close to King and Bridgeport. They make you feel very comfortable there, and it always turns out well.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit pricier, but I think it's definitely worth it.
@9, I think so too, this is just sad
